Bali is an incredibly special island, full of spirituality and beauty. But it is becoming increasingly busy. This means you need to know where to go when you’re backpacking Bali.
I have been lucky enough to spend four months exploring this wonderful island, because I just love it here. The main place that draws me back is Ubud which is a haven for yoga lovers.
To the south of the island you have Uluwatu where you can watch an incredible sunset performance at the clifftop temple. In Sanur, I found a fabulous beachfront yoga studio and went back to school to learn Balinese massage. To the east you have the laid-back black sand beach resorts of Amed, where you can scuba dive a famous shipwreck. From Amed you can catch a fast boat to the nearby Gili Islands which are well-loved by backpackers.
In the heart of Bali, among the forested mountains you will find the peaceful village of Munduk. Then to the west you have the beach towns of Pemuteran and Balian which are quieter and well worth a visit.
